April 16, 2024Julia de Vries

What is bee pollen and how is Forever Bee Pollen used?

Bees are true master chemists of nature. Through cooperation and precision, they collect flower pollen and turn it into valuable products. One of these is bee pollen – a natural product that has been used for years as a dietary supplement.

Bee pollen is known as a so-called superfood because of its broad nutritional composition. In this blog, you will read what bee pollen is, how it is obtained, what it consists of, and what to keep in mind when using it.

1. What is bee pollen?

Bee pollen is the flower pollen that honeybees collect during their flight from flower to flower. This pollen is an essential food source for the bee colony and is partly stored in the beehive.

Part of the pollen is harvested responsibly by beekeepers, without disturbing the bees. This creates a pure natural product with rich nutritional value.

1.1 Forever Bee Pollen

Forever Bee Pollen is collected using special pollen traps at the entrance of the beehive. The beehives of Forever are located in remote, clean areas such as the Sonoran Desert and mountainous regions in Spain.

Thanks to this controlled environment, the product is obtained in as pure a form as possible, without exposure to environmental pollution.

2. The importance of bee pollen for the bee colony

For bees, pollen is the main source of protein. It is used to feed larvae and plays a role in the production of other bee products such as royal jelly.

Part of the pollen is converted into so-called bee bread, a fermented form that serves as a winter supply.

3. How is bee pollen obtained?

During collection, pollen sticks to the bee’s legs. In the hive, this pollen is collected in pollen traps. The harvested pollen is then carefully dried or stored chilled.

This preserves its nutritional value and makes the product suitable for consumption without further processing.

4. What does bee pollen contain?

Bee pollen contains a natural mix of:

  • Proteins (±15–25%)
  • Carbohydrates (±45–60%)
  • Fats (±5–10%)
  • Fiber
  • Vitamins and minerals such as zinc, magnesium and selenium

It also contains amino acids and antioxidants. As a result, bee pollen is often used as a supplement to a varied diet.

5. Advantages and disadvantages of bee pollen

Bee pollen contains many nutrients, but the effect differs from person to person. It is not a replacement for a healthy diet, but can be used as an additional source of nutrients.

Please note: people with allergies to bee products, pregnant women, and people with medical conditions are advised to consult a doctor first.

6. Allergy to bee pollen

A bee pollen allergy is different from hay fever. Possible reactions include skin rash, itching, or shortness of breath. Therefore, always start with a low dosage.

7. Bee pollen and children

Bee pollen can be used in small amounts by children older than 4 years. Use is not recommended for younger children.

8. Use and dosage

Adults

The recommended daily dosage of Forever Bee Pollen is 1 to 3 tablets per day.

Children

Maximum 1 tablet per day. Not suitable for children under 4 years old.

How do you use bee pollen?

Bee pollen can be taken on its own or mixed with yogurt, smoothies or other foods. It is also often combined with other bee products such as honey, propolis or royal jelly.
